Ruto allies donate millions at Kapseret Empowerment Drive hosted by MP Sudi
President Ruto’s close allies and senior government officials poured millions of shillings into an economic empowerment drive hosted by Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi during an event at his constituency held on June 6, 2025.
The leaders lined up one after another, holding cash in hand, as they pledged support for the initiative aimed at uplifting small traders and youth in the area.
“My friends and I have come to support the people of Kapseret. Let me make it clear, there is no government money involved. This is purely from our own pockets, and out of friendship,” Sudi said.
Sudi also disclosed that he and three friends from Tanzania had raised Sh45 million to buy equipment for local businesses.
The initiative targets small-scale traders, women in informal work like ‘mama mboga’, and young people in the boda boda sector, with the aim of helping them grow their businesses.
Leading the contributions was President William Ruto, who sent a donation of Sh2 million.
Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot gave Sh500,000, while Ruto’s aide Farouk Kibet added Sh300,000.
National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah contributed Sh1 million, Nominated MP Sabina Chege gave Sh200,000, and Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii added another Sh1 million.
Murang’a Woman Representative Betty Maina and Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi contributed a total of Sh500,000.
Several MCAs also gave, with the smallest individual donation being Sh10,000.
Other leaders present at the event included Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah, Governor Jonathan Bii, and Nominated MP Sabina Chege. Cabinet Secretary for Treasury John Mbadi and Betty Maina were also in attendance.
Representatives from KCB and Co-operative Bank joined the event, with KCB donating Sh2 million.
Other financial institutions and Mount Kenya University also gave towards the project. Individual donors added hundreds of thousands to support the initiative.
