"Enough is Enough": Ruto declares war on anarchy, pledges to protect Kenyans' lives and property "by all means possible"

Speaking in Kilimani, Nairobi on Wednesday, Nairobi, in his first public remarks since the July 7 protests, Ruto condemned the deadly demonstrations that saw businesses looted, property destroyed, and lives lost.
He blamed unnamed political leaders for funding and inciting violence through paid youths.
“There are people who think they will drive Kenya into chaos. The other day, people’s properties were burned, supermarkets were raided, businesses were destroyed, and those are leaders who have castigated and influenced all these,” Ruto said.
President Ruto: Tunataka amani Kenya, watu wafanye biashara.

The President expressed outrage over the damage caused, linking it to deliberate political sabotage.
“They are paying youths to go burn people’s businesses. All of those who have been arrested and found involved in the illegalities of raiding and destroying people’s properties will be brought to justice and jailed. And those leaders involved, we are coming after you,” he warned.
Ruto declared that any attack on police officers or stations would be treated as a threat to national stability.
“Anyone who will go fight the police and attack the station, that is a declaration of war in the Republic of Kenya, and it is not acceptable. Enough is enough, it will not continue like this,” he said.

He assured Kenyans that his administration would not sit back and watch as public and private property is destroyed.
“I will protect Kenyans’ property, lives and their businesses. It is the responsibility of the government of Kenya, which I lead, to it will make sure these wars of destroying property and burning businesses will stop. It must stop,” he said.
Ruto pledged to restore peace and order “by all means possible”, maintaining that the country could not afford to slide into anarchy.
“We are going to use whatever means that are available to stabilise the country. We cannot accept mayhem and anarchy destroying this country,” he said.
Questioning the motive behind the unrest, Ruto said, “People are telling me about Moi, Moi this. Moi was the President of Kenya, just the way Kibaki was the President, and Uhuru was also the President. And before Moi, there was Kenyatta. Why all this pride?”
Going further, he dismissed any attempts to intimidate or destabilise his leadership through what he termed as pride and tribalism.
“This pride they are trying to bring to me, what is it all about? These games need to stop. Let us sort out our problems. Put tribalism, hate and pride aside. All of us are Kenyans and no one is above the other,” Ruto added.
The President insisted that peace and unity must prevail, regardless of political or ethnic differences. “You can call me whatever names you want, but I will make sure that there is peace and stability in Kenya by all means possible,” he stated.
Ruto’s remarks follow a disturbing update from the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights, which on Tuesday revealed that 31 people were killed, 107 injured, 532 arrested, and two forcibly disappeared during the Saba Saba protests. The commission also cited widespread property damage, while the full extent of losses remains unknown.
